Our Beginnings…
“It’s all Martha Stewart’s fault!”
Randomly flipping through one of her magazines on yet another business flight and wondering how we were to manage the hectic pace of corporate careers, a young family, and our historical home and country property, we stumbled upon on a small ad in the back featuring the alpaca, the “huggable investment”. It wasn’t long before we had prepared copious notes on alpaca care and planned several farm visits to meet alpacas up close and personal; we were smitten at our first introduction!
Alpacas, with their luxuriously soft fibre, endearing personalities, and undemanding care were the perfect choice for a small acreage like ours. Thus, Moore House Fine Alpacas was born in 2004 and we have never looked back since our alpaca adventures began all those years ago.
Our Journey…
Over the years, we established a superior alpaca breeding program,
paying keen attention to fibre quality and only choosing the finest genetics and champion bloodlines. Despite maintaining a relatively small alpaca herd, we are immensely proud of the results of our breeding program, winning numerous top honours in the show ring including coveted Supreme Champion, Colour Champion, and Get of Sire awards. Although we are winding down now and no longer breed or show our alpacas, we make a point of never losing sight of our love for our alpaca friends and the delight they bring to our daily lives.
It’s all about Elite Fibre…
At Moore House Fine Alpacas, we recognized early on that a strong
alpaca fibre industry underpins the long term success of alpaca commerce and that alpaca breeding and the fibre industry are intimately linked. As someone who enjoys engaging her "artsy" side through knitting, spinning, felting, dyeing, as well as designing, Catherine has become known in alpaca circles as highly knowledgeable about alpaca fleece, particularly since embarking on the journey to become a fully certified Camelid Fibre Sorter/Grader.
We are excited that a growing number of people are becoming aware of the luxurious qualities of alpaca and are seeking out apparel and products for home that boast high quality alpaca.
