Star Studded Tam

  Intermediate

I love tams for the simple reason that they don’t tend to squash my hair as badly as other hats.  By wearing them tilted towards the back of the head, your hair can be left undisturbed to  nicely frame the face.  On colder days, simply pull the tam a little more snuggly to the front and down over the ears to protect them from windy blasts.

Made with our luxurious Moore House alpaca yarn, this tam is worked from the centre of the crown out towards the brim, using yarn overs in a pretty star pattern to gradually increase the tam’s diameter.  The nifty bobbles add further interest.

Smocked Hat

  Intermediate

This feminine smocked hat harkens back to the days when noble ladies spent their afternoons doing fine needlework.

A traditional embroidery technique using needle and thread, smocking adds a feminine flare to all things "girl".  Now you can achieve a similar effect using knitting needles and our oh-so-soft Moore House alpaca yarn but with a lot less effort!

The knit smocking stitch is quite easy to master as it is mainly made up of knit and purl stitches; no cabling required.  Thus, this hat works up quite quickly and its natural elasticity makes it suitable for a large range of head sizes-perfect for gift giving!

Good Hair Day Tam

  Novice

As much as I love hats, I don't much care for how my very fine hair is left flat as a pancake after being smushed in a hat for any length of time.  Voilà, the problem is solved with this tam as it is worn towards the back of the head, leaving your bangs and the front of your hair looking great all day.

Made with our beautiful Moore House boucle alpaca yarn, the design is super simple.  The tam is a snap to make, even for the novice knitter.  The boucle does all the work in adding a gorgeous texture to the tam.

This kit is available in an array of both natural and hand dyed colours (MH Traditions Boucle yarn 75% alpaca/25% fine wool).

Orchard Lace Scarf

  Intermediate (Easy Lace)

Our farm is nestled smack dab in the midst of acres and acres of cherry orchards.  The linear arrangement of the lace in this pattern reminds me of the carefully aligned rows upon rows of lovely cherry trees that blossom in the spring; thus the "Orchard" Scarf was born.  The scarf is begun and finished with a delicate picot edging which provides a lovely accent and is quite simple to do.

Made with our Moore House Premier Sport yarn, it is silky soft and warm enough to keep those Arctic winds at bay.

Finished size is approximately 8" x 55"

Triangular Shawl with Variations

  Easy

My motto in designing this shawl was the KISS principle - Keep It Simple Silly.  Sometimes, we just want a no-brain project to keep our hands busy while we sit watching TV, listening to music or enjoying our family and friends.  The end result though, is a lovely shawl that feels as good as it looks, thanks to glorious alpaca.

You are offered a choice of patterns.  The simplest is the main body knitted in easy garter stitch.  If you are a bit more adventuresome or desire a fancier shawl, try your hand at adding some eyelets.  Instructions for both are included in the pattern.

Thrum Mitts

  Intermediate

Sliding your hand into a pair of thrummed mittens made with bits of alpaca roving is heaven... amazingly toasty and the alpaca adds pure luxury!  Thrumming, a knitting technique used in Atlantic Canada, uses wisps of unspun fleece or roving, called thrums, that are knit into your project at regular intervals. The ends of the thrums are kept inside the mitten forming a fluffy inner lining that felts with wear. This helps the mittens form to your hands and gives your hands a cozy refuge in especially cold weather.

Our thrum mitt kits contain enough hand-dyed Moore House lopi alpaca blend yarn (80% alpaca/20% wool) and Moore House carded alpaca (100% alpaca) to make either size Small (ages 8-teen), Medium (Ladies), or Large (Mens).

Price:  $46 (taxes incl.)

Sorry, we are Sold Out for now.  We are hoping to replenish our stock of these kits by February 2022.

Garter Rib Comfort Socks

  Intermediate (Beginner Sock)

These top down socks are made with Moore House Majestic North Sock yarn (70% alpaca/15% merino/15% bamboo).  They are a cinch to make and are ideal for those who are embarking on the sock knitting voyage for the first time.  The garter stitch rib is a little faster to knit up than a traditional k2p2 or k1p1 rib sock since every other round is completely knit, yet the garter rib preserves the needed elasticity.  Your feet will love to be cuddled up in these socks wherever they are put to work whether it be out hiking, working outside, or carrying out more domestic pursuits about the house!

Price (tax incl.): $38 / 110g Moore House Majestic North Sock Yarn (enough for 1 pair of socks)

Dizzie Lizzie Rippley Socks

  Intermediate

The wavey design of these socks was inspired by my daughter Elizabeth, who as a younger child, loved the dizzying past-time of jumping in the waves at the beach!  Now she is a "too cool"  teenager who  has traded  in the beach waves for "so cool" wavey socks!

The rippley pattern in these socks is nicely accentuated by the striping effect of our MH handpainted yarns.  With so many colour ways from which to choose, you too can make a fashion statement in "so cool" socks while your feet enjoy the incredible warmth and comfort of alpaca!
